July 27. President Donald Trump will visit the Fujifilm Diosynth Biotechnologies’ Innovation Center in the Research Triangle Park today. The company is helping with the manufacturing of components for a potential vaccine developed by Novavax. That vaccine is expected to be in Phase 2 clinical trials by the middle of August.
As of Sunday, North Carolina had recorded 112,713 cases of COVID-19 and 1,785 deaths.
It’s part of Operation Warp Speed, the federal government’s effort to ramp up COVID-19 vaccines and treatments as quickly as possible.
Fujifilm Diosynth is a leading biologics-Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization (CDMO) that is also part of the COVID-19 Therapeutics Accelerator, an initiative launched by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Wellcome, and Mastercard to speed up the response to the global pandemic.
“COVID-19 has had a profound impact on the global community. With the goal of enhancing society through innovation, Fujiifilm and the various Fujifilm businesses globally are committed to support the fight against COVID-19,” said CEO Martin Meeson. “We are honored that FUJIFILM Diosynth Biotechnologies is able to use its resources to support COVID-19 Therapeutics Accelerator partners in their mission to improve health.”
