Dec. 14. Kwame Ryan is the new music director of the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra (CSO). Hailed as a “dynamic conductor” by The Baltimore Sun, Ryan will assume his new role next year, the CSO’s 93rd season.
He will lead two performances of Wang Jie’s Symphonic Overture “America, the Beautiful,” Brahms’s Symphony No. 1, and Tchaikovsky’s Variations on a Rococo Theme on April 5–6, 2024.
Ryan, the first Black conductor in the orchestra’s 90 year history, is Music Director Designate through the remainder of the 2023–24 season.
