June 5. NC Attorney General Josh Stein gave an overview of the business climate at the Lake Norman Chamber’s Legislative PowerLuncheon at NorthStone Country Club. Stein, the Democratic candidate for governor, said he has focused on making sure that North Carolina’s economy is healthy.
“I’m running for governor because I believe in the promise of North Carolina—that if you work hard, where you come from should never limit how far you can go. That means tapping the potential of every person in this state and focusing on common-sense solutions that will set our businesses up for success,” Stein said.
He explained that he fought for small businesses to have an equal shot at PPP funds during COVID; helped small business owners protect themselves from scams and fraud; and sued Google for its anti-competitive behavior in their app store. He also supported a proposed USDA rule to help small poultry farmers have more transparency in dealing with large processors.
“As Governor, I’ll fight to ensure entrepreneurs have every opportunity to build wealth by reducing red tape, investing in innovative strategies for economic development, and increasing resources for technical assistance and mentorship programs. I will also provide small, minority, and women-owned businesses a fair shot at competing for state contracts,” he said.
The Chamber hopes to secure Lt Governor Mark Robinson, the Republican Candidate for Governor, at a luncheon later this summer.
