Dec. 15. By Dave Yochum. A new Genesis dealership is on deck for the automotive district on Hwy. 21 in Cornelius. The Modern Auto Group, owners of the existing Nissan store, are proposing building a 25,000 square foot Genesis dealership at 18605 Statesville Road.
The 2.75-acre site for the new Genesis store is immediately north of the Nissan store. The plan will need to go through the Cornelius rezoning process in order to proceed.
Background
‘Genesis is a distinctly Korean brand, and we treat all those who visit us as “son-nim.” When you visit a Genesis retail facility, you are being welcomed into our home, and this type of approach provides greater transparency and a more pleasant purchase and ownership experience.’
—Claudia Marquez, COO
Genesis Motor North America
Similar to Lexus growing out of Toyota and Infiniti growing out of Nissan, Genesis has grown out of the Korea-based Hyundai Motor Group as its own stand-alone luxury brand.
It officially emerged as its own marque in November of 2015.
Electric future
Worldwide sales for Genesis have reached one million vehicles. In 2022, Genesis launched three all-electric models. According to an interview in Pursuitist, a luxury lifestyle guide, all new Genesis models that will be introduced in 2025 and beyond will be 100 percent electric.
The entire Genesis lineup will consist of only EVs by 2030.
The plan for the next three years is to build standalone facilities for Genesis to enhance the overall buying and ownership experience.
David Fowler, vice president of operations at Modern Auto Group, could not be reached for comment.
