May 3. John Bradford III, the founder of Pet Screening Inc., is a Southeastern finalist in the prestigious Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year competition. The Cornelius resident, who is also a North Carolina assemblyman, was selected by an independent panel of judges.
Bradford started PetScreening in 2017 based on his belief that pit bulls, german shepherds, rottweilers and other guard-dogs are not necessarily dangerous because of their breed. The online platform allows property managers to outsource the process of pet risk assessment and validates service or support animals.
Bradford believed that every pet and its owner together represented a bigger picture, painted by specific data that could be shared with landlords, property managers and businesses to make better pet-related decisions.
The company, which has partnered with four venture capital companies, operates out of more than 10,000 square feet of space in Mooresvile. It has more than 70 employees.
Background
Bradford represents NC District 98 which includes Cornelius, Davidson and Huntersville. He has announced plans to run for NC State Treasurer next year.
Ernst & Young judges evaluated entrepreneurs were evaluated based on building long-term value through entrepreneurial spirit, purpose, growth and impact, among other attributes.
Bradford also launched and later sold Cornelius-based Park Avenue Properties which specializes in property management and investment of residential rental property.
Quotable
“I am excited and humbled to be named a Finalist with this group of entrepreneurs in the southeast. Just being in the company of these ambitious movers and shakers is very meaningful to me,” Bradford said.

Congratulations, John! Best of luck as you move toward the finals.
Seriously…….
While working so hard to deregulate BC&BS. And to vote against women’s rights. Vote for change to laws allowing renters like AIR B&B.
Why can’t he work in Raleigh to make improvements for the people in his district? We want some roads!
Why do politicians constantly need to pick up awards. Is this a precondition to running for Treasurer? Does this Accounting firm want to rub shoulder with future State Treasurer?
