Dave Cable and The Order of the Long Leaf Pine

Oct. 2. Dave Cable has received the state’s most prestigious award for his service to the local community and North Carolina. It was given on behalf of Gov. Roy Cooper by NC Sen. Natasha Marcus at a surprise luncheon in Davidson.

Quotable

“This award means the world to me. Let me say how much I appreciate each and every one of you and everything you have done for the community. Let’s keep it going, continue to have fun, and continue to make a difference in the community,” he said.

Background

Cable has been active in environmental and community affairs since retiring in 2004 from a successful banking and real estate career at Wachovia Securities and at Springside Partners, a real estate and appraisal review services consultancy he owns.

He served as executive director of the Catawba Lands Conservancy and the Carolina Thread Trail, and was the founding executive director of Trees Charlotte, dedicated to building and preserving Charlotte’s tree canopy.

Cable volunteered and led the Davidson Lands Conservancy as executive director, and now serves as a volunteer senior advisor to the organization. In 2020, Cable co-founded and chaired the board of the Davidson Community Foundation, where he continues to serve as a board member.

Recognized across North Carolina as a leader and expert in land conservation, Cable served on the state level as a member of the executive committee of the NC Wildlife Federation. He has served on the boards of WDAV, the Redlair Foundation (dedicated to preserving land in Gaston County), and numerous committees for the Town of Davidson.

About the Award

The Order of the Long Leaf Pine was established in 1963 to recognize individuals’ service to the state and their communities above and beyond the call of duty. It is issued by the governor to those who have made a significant impact and helped strengthen North Carolina.
