Louis DeJoy, the national finance chair for the Charlotte 2020 Host Committee, will become the new Postmaster General of the United States. The long-time Republican fundraiser will start the new job in June.
The Greensboro resident is president of LDJ Global Strategies, a real estate, private equity, consulting, and project management company. Prior to founding LDJ Global Strategies, he was the CEO of XPO Logistics’ supply chain business in the Americas.
DeJoy and his wife, Dr. Aldona Wos, created the Wos Family Foundation in 2005 to support and invest in organizations that provide opportunities for individuals to advance their education and career options.
The selection of DeJoy as postmaster general gives the president more control over an independent federal agency he has described as “a joke.”
Meanwhile, 82 members of Congress sent a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy requesting the “strongest possible relief for the USPS” in the next round of COVID-19 relief legislation.
“We write to request that any future relief package provide strong financial assistance to the United States Postal Service (USPS) while also enacting reforms necessary for its long-term viability …” members of Congress said.
“In the CARES Act, Congress sought to stabilize our nation from the consequences of the novel coronavirus. Now, as we seek to stimulate our nation, we must take decisive steps to secure one of our country’s oldest, most cherished, and most valuable institutions.”
