Sept. 20. Eggs Up Grill will open early next year in Turnberry Place at One Norman and West Catawba. Husband-and-wife team Chris and Sofia Mendoza and business partner Alfonso Segura say the 2,500 square foot restaurant will occupy the old Matt’s Chicago Dog space.
They will have indoor seating for 94, plus an outdoor patio for 32.
The restaurant will be open seven days a week from 6 am to 2 pm, with dine-in, online ordering, takeout, catering and delivery options available.
Family affair
“We didn’t just want to own a business, but rather we wanted to do something that is meaningful,” Chris Mendoza said. “There isn’t anything like Eggs Up Grill, and we know it will allow us, along with our two young daughters, to be out in the community volunteering our time and making a difference.”
Foodie background
Mendoza began his restaurant career with Yum Brands. He spent another14 years under the Taco Bell umbrella.

Great competition with Fresh Egg… which I love but…
Glad to see good use of the space and another local business. For those who don’t want to wait, his description matches The Egg at Davidson, my personal favorite and one of my top 10 breakfast spots in the nation (I am 67 and I know breakfast).
Two breakfasts out each week will be great. The Egg’s Fiesta Benedict is your competion!
Please be better than “famous toastery” and Eggs Joint in Birkdale and Davidson which both suck. We need a really good breakfast/brunch place. There’s one in Denver, NC , Sun Cafe, who are completely nuts…two people, regular breakfast, $50. Never again. Please bring something worth having to this area.
