Banana Republic likely to close next year in Birkdale Village; Barnes & Noble, Dick’s staying

Nov 7.  The Banana Republic in Birkdale Village will likely close next year when its lease expires, according the NAP, Birkdale Village owners.

NAP is in negotiation with the brand that will take the space and “cannot share that information until the lease is fully executed.”

Meanwhile, NAP says the hotel that will take over the Barnes & Noble space won’t be built until 2028.

In October 2020, Gap Inc., the parent company of the global apparel and accessories chain Banana Republic announced it would close 350 of Gap and Banana Republic stores across North America by the end of 2023. The Banana Republic in the SouthPark shopping center is among those.

Barnes & Noble and Dick’s Sporting Goods staying for now

NAP says both Barnes & Noble and Dick’s s recently extended their leases and have several years left in their terms.

They retailers could eventually relocate or close. Birkdale Village is asking the Town of Huntersville for the OK for more than $250 million in new development that would include offices, parking decks and a new hotel.

The hotel would occupy the Barnes & Noble and Dick’s Sporting Goods space.

“The hotel, if approved, would not get underway until at least 2028,” NAP says.
