Atrium ‘community benefit’ nearly $3 billion

Nov. 27. Charlotte-based Atrium Health annual “community benefit,” which includes free and discounted care for low-income patients, under-compensated care for those on Medicare and Medicaid and costs related to medical research—grew to $2.8 billion during 2022.

It was the highest-ever amount for Charlotte-based Atrium Health, which is building a hospital in Cornelius.

Atrium Health is part of Advocate Health, the nation’s third-largest nonprofit health system, which contributed $5.9 billion in charitable care and services. Atrium Health and Advocate Aurora Health combined one year ago to form Advocate Health.

Advocate Health returns the equivalent of $16 million per day to communities across the six states it serves in the form of community benefit.

  1. This will be very beneficial for the community. A new hospital is always a welcoming site.
