May 8. To identify which states’ workforces have been hurt most by COVID-19, WalletHub compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia based on increases in unemployment claims. The most impacted states range from Florida (the worst) to North Carolina (No. 6) to Montana (least effected). The average state unemployment benefit in North Carolina is now $265 a week.
