Top economist: ‘Charlotte’s evolution, there’s no going back’

April 12. Net migration into Charlotte has fueled population gains and supported growth in employment and commercial real estate, according to John Silvia, one of the top economists in the U.S. The Wells Fargo economist says, however, that employment growth here has moderated recently.

Silvia will discuss the evolution of the Charlotte “employment situation,” net migration, construction and commerce at the Newsmakers Breakfast Wednesday morning at The Peninsula Club. (Call 704-895-1335 to RSVP.)

Prior to his current position, Silvia worked on Capitol Hill as senior economist for the U.S. Senate Joint Economic Committee and chief economist for the U.S. Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee. Before that, he was chief economist of Kemper Funds and managing director of Scudder Kemper Investments.
