Commissioned in 1938 by industrialist Reuben B. Robertson, then-president of Champion Fibre, Hopewood was envisioned by architect James Gamble Rogers II as a tribute to Robertson’s wife, Hope Thomson Robertson.

Hopewood blends formal grandeur with modern comforts. There’s a dramatic foyer with a sweeping curved staircase, a gourmet kitchen outfitted with premium appliances, a library and even an elevator.

The formal gardens, with origins dating to 1878, include a Japanese maple, estimated to be over 120 years old, and considered one of the most distinguished specimens in the United States.

The estate includes two charming guest cottages and a pavilion designed for memorable gatherings.
