Jan. 30. According to a WalletHub report, North Carolina scored second-best in a nationwide study based on the number of accounts that have gone into collection. Mississippi was in the best shape, debt-wise, while Wyoming was the worst.
A collection account is a debt that has gone unpaid for such a long period of time that the original creditor has decided to sell it to a debt collection agency, giving them the right to collect it instead.
Wyoming had the highest average balance per collection account, at $1,981. North Carolina’s Average Balance per Collection Account was more than $700 lower: $1,258.97
