Jan. 16. Equal pay for equal work is closer to reality in some states, dramatically more so than others. New research from Lensa, a job search engine, says North Carolina is among the top 10 states for lowest gender pay gaps.
North Carolina was ninth-best, according to the study, while Vermont, Maryland and California came in at first, second and third, respectively.
Worst states
The three worst states, based on median earnings for men and women, were Wyoming, Utah and Louisiana had the largest pay gaps based on gender.
Despite huge improvements in gender equality, making the workplace more accessible and breaking the glass ceiling, pay gaps still persists—and may worsen in those states with larger gaps. Lensa says regional differences can make location an important factor for women who are willing to relocate for their careers.
