Dec. 14. By TL Bernthal. A blowout salon and an eatery with upscale street food and a coastal vibe are coming to Birkdale Village next year.

Drybar Shops will open its third location in Mecklenburg County and bartaco its third restaurant in the state.

Husband-wife duo Matt and Jackie Paynter will open their blowout salon at Birkdale Village in 2023. Jackie, a Charlotte native, has held a cosmetology license for 20 years and decided to pursue the Drybar franchise opportunity five years ago, according to North American Properties.  The other locations are in SouthPark and Atherton Mill.

The salon at Birkdale Village will occupy a 1,340-square-foot space near the Grove.

“It seems like once a week since opening our Drybar SouthPark location someone asks when we are going to expand into the Lake Norman/Huntersville area,” Jackie Paynter says.  “We’ve always thought Birkdale Village was a special place, and once we heard about the revitalization, we knew it was the next destination for us to land outside of Charlotte.”

Remember: No cuts. No color. Just blowouts.

Inspired by a healthy, outdoor lifestyle, bartaco combines fresh, upscale street food with a coastal vibe in a relaxed environment, according to NAP.

The restaurant in Huntersville joins NC locations in Raleigh and Chapel Hill. 

bartaco will offer specialty cocktails crafted with fresh-squeezed juices, freshly prepared tacos and handmade guacamole ceviche, tuna poke, rice bowls and desserts.

The 3,400-square-foot, full-service restaurant will be adjacent to the Grove.

Corkscrew Birkdale

No word yet on what its plans are. Corkscrew, which opened more than 18 years ago at Birkdale Village, lost its lease but will remain open through the holidays. As of this week, there was no news on a possible new location or plans.
