Dec. 7. Toyota’s new North American battery manufacturing plant will create at least 1,750 jobs and contribute more than $9.5 billion to the North Carolina economy over the next 20 years.

“The future of mobility is electrification and the Greensboro-Randolph Megasite is the ideal location to make that future a reality,” said Ted Ogawa, CEO of Toyota Motor North America.

The $1.29 billion plant at the Greensboro-Randolph Megasite is part of North Carolina’s growing clean energy economy, Gov. Roy Cooper said.

Electrified vehicles account for nearly 25 percent of Toyota/Lexus sales volume.

Outlook

That will nearly triple in the next decade.

Economic development incentives include up to $79.1 million over 20 years.

When it comes online in 2025, the plant will have four production lines, each capable of delivering enough lithium-ion batteries for 200,000 vehicles—with the intention to expand to at least six production lines for a combined total of up to 1.2 million vehicles per year.
