By moving to Mooresville, we can build our team in a great part of the country with access to excellent universities, academic research facilities, a great airport, good weather, coupled with a professional workforce.”

Gov. Roy Cooper, who announced the $50,000 grant today, said average salaries are expected to be right around $100,000. Iredell County’s current average annual wage is $47,705.

“North Carolina is uniquely suited for innovative, knowledge-based companies like TrueLearn, and our workforce is ready to fill these technology and data science jobs,” said Cooper.

The company currently has 20 employees and plans to expand to 44 once the relocation is complete. True Learn has been in business for eight years and estimates that they have assisted some 70,000 physicians achieve board certification. The company could add another five employees this year.

TrueLearn plans to invest $435,000 over five years in Mooresville.

“We were impressed with the plans for economic growth in the Mooresville and Langtree areas and look forward to drawing new talent from the surrounding colleges and universities. There is great education here in our backyard and we plan to supercharge the tech community right here in Mooresville,” Watersee said.

Dr. Joshua Courtney, TrueLearn’s founder and CEO, said the company has the “unique opportunity to influence the lives of thousands of young physicians in their efforts to outperform” on licensure exams.  “To achieve this, we work with some of the best minds in the education technology community. After a great run in Pittsburgh, we are thrilled to move our headquarters to the Charlotte area as the company enters into a new phase in its growth cycle, and we are grateful for the support we have received from the community,” he said.

Board certification is the process by which a doctor displays a mastery of basic knowledge and skills through written, practical, or simulator-based testing. There are over two dozen boards in the US which certify physician specialists and while there is no legal requirement to attain certifications, many hospitals and medical groups may demand that physicians be board certified to get privileges or join a practice.
