LKN tennis tourney nets $566,820

More than 600 junior tennis players competing in the 2015 state Championships helped generate $566,820 in total receipts, according to Visit Lake Norman, which landed the two-year contract. The  United States Tennis Association will hold the tournament again next year in Lake Norman, benefiting area hotels and eateries.

Four official hotels were used for the event, all of which were sold out, says Travis Dancy, director of sales for Visit Lake Norman.

River Run Tennis Club served as the host site for the tournament, in addition to hosting a player party, which was the largest ever with some 900 attendees.  Matches were also held at Holbrook Park, Hopewell High School, Hough High School, Jetton Park and North Mecklenburg Park.

“The Lake Norman Tennis Association is very excited to have been a part of this record breaking event.  The community really came together as a whole and made this event a huge success.  Special thanks to our partnership with Visit Lake Norman for all their support with the tournament.  We are looking forward to a bigger and better event next year,” said Amy Brandon, tournament coordinator with the Lake Norman Tennis Association.

The Lake Norman region has hosted an adult tennis state championship each of the last three years, the most recent of which in June, but this was the first time the juniors had been held in the Lake Norman region.
